Research by LGBT Youth Scotland and the Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) campaign highlight the negative attitudes towards LGBT young people in Scottish schools, reports the BBC.

A survey of teachers and young people of all sexualities found that 64% of (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) LGBT respondents reported being bullied because of their gender identity or sexual orientation – and 90% experienced homophobia, biphobia or transphobia at school. In addition, 27% of LGBT respondents reported they had attempted suicide at least once as a result of bullying and 95% believed that being bullied has had a lasting negative impact on them.

Alongside the steps being taken by the Government to help school leadership and policymakers at all levels focus on fully implementing the Equality Act (2010), NetSupport’s solutions provide safeguarding tools to help school identify and support students with safeguarding issues.
