Figures obtained from a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to police forces in England and Wales show that in 2016/2017, there were 5,653 police-recorded online child sexual offences – an increase of 44% compared to the previous year’s data in 2015/2016. Based on this increase, the NSPCC is calling on the Government to introduce strict online safety measures for social media and internet companies to adhere to. Read the full report here.
