Bullying Prevention Month – let’s work together to combat bullying!

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a campaign founded by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center to raise awareness and bring communities together to prevent bullying and cyberbullying. It is a timely reminder that creating a positive school culture takes a shared, sustained commitment from students, educators, families, and the wider community.

Founded in 2006, the movement challenges the outdated idea that bullying is simply a “rite of passage”. Instead, it highlights the importance of fostering environments rooted in empathy, respect, and proactive support.

From awareness to everyday action

With one in five students reporting that they have experienced bullying, creating a safe learning environment – both in physical classrooms and in digital spaces – requires more than just standard school rules. It calls for active intervention, digital citizenship, and tools that help school staff identify early warning signs before a crisis escalates.

While open communication in the classroom is vital, much of modern bullying takes place out of plain sight through digital channels. NetSupport’s safeguarding solutions (such as NetSupport DNA and classroom.cloud) give schools the technology needed to spot concerning behaviors and protect at-risk students by allowing authorized safeguarding staff greater visibility of concerning digital activity on school-managed devices.

Bullying prevention is most effective when schools combine a supportive culture, clear processes, and informed action. By pairing school-wide empathy initiatives with proactive monitoring technology, educators can build a safer, more supportive foundation where every student feels secure.
